Can't really say its the same though, you don't get molested every time you get a passport.

Why not have it be the same check?
Why can't Homeland Security take the Consular Bureau's word for it, and just let me be?
$$$, that's why. And that's what sucks about it, it smells like the line-cutter passes at Disney.

The first thoughts that come to my mind:
A) TSA doesn't really do anything, it's a propaganda piece.
B) They have more authority than anything non-law enforcement/military should.
C) If I someone already paid for the background check on the passport, the TSA has no business having them pay for one again.
Nothing about the TSA makes sense or is about safety. It's all about money.

Just every time you use it.

When getting on a plane, trains and border crossings on the other hand not so much.

That's why people don't like the TSA in general. It's security theater that you are forced to pay to see.

I don't need a passport to fly domestically. I *do* have to deal with TSA to fly to Puerto Rico or Hawaii...where I don't need a passport.

Sorry, but I go through Philly International on the regular and I'm pretty sure the only reason a plane hasn't been blown up there is because no one has tried yet.

I'll grant you that. It's hard to make Philadelphia any more terrible.

Black people having authority over you truly is terrifying.

Honestly if the TSA was anywhere near as competent as England's Airport security I wouldn't have a problem. But this is just a blatant money grab and I refuse to finance an organisation as badly run as the TSA. Unfortunately I have no choice when it comes to congress...
